Polyurethane is a completely manmade material that mimics properties of neoprene in terms of shore hardness, resistance to oil and chemicals and IR. It does not require any anti-fouling properties in the formulation, as it is inherently resistant and well-suited for cable jackets with a lower melting point.

One advantage that polyurethane moulding provides over neoprene is transparency and colour of over moulded materials. With excellent material opacity, combined with in moulded LED’s, this material can provide the visuals of active cable power, data and faults. Another edge that polyurethane provides is the low temperatures required to overmould and the ability of the material to blend with itself (from polyurethane jacketed cable). Thus eliminating any doubt for water ingress from the end of the overmould into the cable .

Subsea Supplies together with Subsea Connect provides a dedicated polyurethane cable mould shop for moulding polyurethane jacketed cables in subsea applications.
